Flagship Students: We Want YOU! Student Ambassador Applications Due This Wednesday!

2012-2013 Flagship Student Ambassadors

Role: Flagship Student Ambassadors represent the program in an engaged, professional manner to prospective students, company representatives, international delegations (i.e. from partner universities), alumni, and to the university and surrounding communities. Ambassadors also act as mentors/advisors for current students on campus and abroad.

Time Commitment: You must be able to commit to attending several pre-determined recruiting events per semester (in BOLD), and to participating in on- and off-campus activities as your schedule allows.

Events:

  • Open Houses in the fall: Oct. 20 & 28
  • Welcome Days: spring
  • High school visits (at least 1 per semester)
  • Chinese class visits (at least 2 in fall)
  • Moon Festival, Chinese New Year
  • Poster Presentation at the Colloquium on International Engineering Education: Friday, Nov. 2 at the Hotel Viking in Newport, RI
  • Prospective student visits
  • Welcome international delegations and company representatives

Communications: Student Ambassadors will serve as resources for Chinese Flagship Program marketing and recruitment efforts, as well as for current students abroad, by sharing their program knowledge and experiences through various mediums: phone and email inquiries, newsletters, videos, study abroad handbooks, and digital and social media (blogging, Facebook, program website, etc.). We rely on your authentic stories, photos, and profiles to attract new students and spread the word about what makes the Chinese Flagship Program great!

Incentives:
  • Add leadership and community-building experience to your resume.
  • Develop your professional communication skills.
  • Network with prospective employers and future colleagues.
  • Contribute to your program. (The success of the program you graduate from adds value to your degree.)
  • Earn a $500 Scholarship for exemplary service upon completion of each semester at the discretion of the program directors.

Application: Submit a letter of interest including your program of study (majors and minors), your reasons for applying, and your qualifications for this position. Email your letter as a Word doc or PDF attachment to Erin Papa (Flagship Coordinator) at epapauri@gmail.com with the subject heading “Student Ambassador Application” by 4 PM on Wednesday, September 12. Applicants will be notified by Friday, September 14.
