2014 Confucius Institute Scholarships for Semester or Academic Year Study in China

For students planning to study for one semester or longer beginning in fall 2014 at a number of universities in China, including Nanjing University, Tianjin Normal University, Ocean University of China, and Zhejiang University.  Students must contact the URI Confucius Institute and take the HSK (to be offered at URI on 4/12/14 & 5/10//14) to apply. Please see below for detailed information on the scholarships and how to apply.

2014 Confucius Institute Scholarships and Application Procedures

Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban has started the application for the 2014 Confucius Institute Scholarships sponsoring students, scholars, and Chinese language teachers  from other countries to study Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Chinese philosophy in one of the Chinese universities listed behind.

Scholarships feasible to students

1.      Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Students

Eligibility Criteria
Non-Chinese citizens
Confucius Institute or Confucius Classroom students, or
Over-seas Chinese teachers, or
Winners of any level “Chinese Bridge” competitions, or
Excellent university Chinese majors, or
Scored over 180 in HSK level 3 and over 60 in HSKK primary level

Time of entrance: Fall 2014. The grant is offered for one academic year for scholarship winners to study in majors of Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Chinese philosophy.

2.      Scholarship for One-Semester Students.

Eligibility Criteria
Non-Chinese citizens
Confucius Institute or Confucius Classroom students, or
Over-seas Chinese teachers, or
Winners of any level “Chinese Bridge” competitions, or
University Chinese majors, or
Scored over 120 in HSK level 2 and over 40 in HSKK primary level

Time of entrance: fall 2014 or spring 2015, the grant is offered for one semester.

Scholarship coverage
a.       Monthly living allowances CNY1400 for one-academic- year students and one-semester students
b.      Registration fee
c.       Tuition fee
d.      Textbooks
e.       On campus accommodation fee
f.       Moving and settlement fee CNY 1000 for one-semester students, CNY 1500 for one-year students

Step 1:  Log on to http://cis.chinese.cn ---Register ---fill out the application form online
Step 2:  Contact Confucius Institute at URI for recommendations and for completing required documents before May 10th, 2014.
Step 3:             Keep an eye on the admissions information by June 16th, 2014.
Step 4:  Set up contacts with your host institute for more information.

1.      Photocopy of the passport photo page
2.      Photocopy of HSK, HSKK score reports
3.      Notarized highest diploma attained
4.      Two recommendation letters
5.      *(optional) photocopy of Chinese Bridge award certificates
6.      Other materials required by the host institutes.

Flagship Program Seeks Student Interns - Apply by 3/16

The Chinese Flagship Program seeks Flagship Student Interns (paid positions) to help with the following from March 23 - May 31, 2014 for up to 20 hours per week:

  • Develop a public awareness campaign to promote the value of bilingualism and biliteracy in Rhode Island and to help develop a grassroots advocacy campaign for the implementation of the recommendations of the Rhode Island Roadmap to Language Excellence.  
  • Perform office tasks as needed, including data entry, communication with prospective students, and coordination of visits and other program-related activities.

  • Keen attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Creativity, flexibility, and technical ability
  • Strong work ethic and interpersonal skills

  • Submit a resume and a letter of intent detailing your reasons for applying, qualifications for this position, and ideas for the public awareness campaign via email to Erin Papa, Assistant Director, at epapauri@gmail.com with the subject heading “Student Intern Application” by 4 PM on Sunday, March 16.

  • Interviews will be conducted on March 18 and 19.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University is pleased to offer a Master of Science degree program –Master of International Business (MIB). Within a community of diverse cultural backgrounds, you will gain an understanding of global business and a deep insight into China’s dynamic changes of enterprise environment as well as China’s history, culture, law, and policy. The duration of MIB program is 2 years.

WELL-STUCTURED CURRICULUM

MIB curriculum is designed exclusively for international students who are interested in both international business and Chinese economy.

-- Foundation courses: research methods, Chinese business law, Chinese culture, Chinese economy, Chinese language, etc.

-- Practical courses: change leadership communication, doing business in China (Marketing, operation management, investment, and human resources), cross-cultural management, etc.

--Seminars: organized frequently, inviting scholars and business elites from top universities and companies in the world

--Study tour: in the second semester, we will organize study tour for students to cities in China such as Xi’an and Beijing which are the ancient and modern cultural centers of China respectively.

--Activities: company visits (local companies like Yihaodian, Tencent, etc. and foreign companies such as JP Morgan, Boston Consulting, etc.), cultural tour to some old towns around Shanghai, Christmas party will hold regularly as well


EXCELLENT EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITIES

MIB students can choose the exchange program in the third semester, not including ones mother countries. Annually, around 150 undergraduate students and 50 graduate students have the chance to go to nearly 70 universities in America, Canada, UK, Germany, etc. for one-semester exchange experience.


INTERNSHIP RECOMMENDATION

SJTU established good partnership with different enterprises. Our graduates continue to attract the attention of recruiters from top enterprises. We aim to offer intern opportunities to every MIB students.
