URI Community: 20,000 Voices, Feb. 26

February 4, 2013

Greetings URI Community,

It is with great enthusiasm that we invite you to attend 20,000 Voices: Exploring Big Questions about Community, Equity, and Diversity at URI on February 26, 2013 in the Memorial Union Ballroom from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

20,000 Voices provides a venue for all members of the URI community to share ideas for enhancing community, equity, inclusion, and diversity. Please come and contribute to the conversation about improving URI's climate and the experiences of faculty, staff, and students. 20,000 Voices is a free-flowing environment where participants may enter and leave the discussion at their discretion.
Open space technology has a grassroots foundation that allows participants to guide the day's agenda.
What big questions do you want to ask? What big ideas might you contribute?
Some questions we may explore include, but are not limited to:
  • Do you feel welcome, included, and heard at URI?
  • Can students impact social change here?
  • How do faculty develop more inclusive curriculum that reflects the student body?
  • How might staff employ strategic approaches to inclusivity?
  • How can we cultivate a community where everyone feels they have not only a right, but also a responsibility, to share their perspectives on diversity?
  • Why is talking about diversity so uncomfortable?
  • We want to hear YOUR voice! Make a change in YOUR community! Ask YOUR Big Questions!
Please click this link www.uri.edu/diversity/voices to view the event website and register by February 21. Registration for lunch is required.

Faculty are encouraged to bring students and campus supervisors are urged to allow interested staff members to participate.
