Summer 2014: Changes to Chinese Study Options

There will be a number of changes to summer Chinese language offerings at URI this summer.  To summarize, the URI Chinese Summer School will not run as it has in the past.  Instead, we will offer the following options:
  1. URI Summer Session I & II Chinese Courses: CHN 101, 102, 103, 104, 205.  Registration will be available through e-Campus as for any regular URI summer course.  Students who choose to take any of these courses would also have the option to participate in URI Chinese Flagship Immersion Program cultural activities in the afternoons.
  2. Chinese Language & Culture Program in Hangzhou, China: A 4-week faculty-led summer course for non-Flagship students, led by the Confucius Institute at Zhejiang University (ZJU) in Hangzhou, China from July 2-August 1, 2014.  Students, who choose this option, are strongly encouraged to participate in Summer Session I at URI prior to this program for a longer-term experience similar to the former 8-week URI Chinese Summer School model.
  3. URI Chinese Flagship Immersion Program: For students in the Chinese Flagship Program, who are enrolled in CHN 112H in spring 2014 or who have a Novice High/Intermediate Low proficiency level from other institutions.  May 26-July 18, 2014.  This will be an 8-week residential immersion program at URI designed to bring students from Novice High/Intermediate Low to Intermediate Mid level proficiency.  Students will live on campus and a Chinese-only environment for the 8 weeks and participate in intensive Chinese language and culture courses (CHN 113 and 114).
  4. Flagship Overseas Summer Programs for students in Flagship CHN 216H and above.
